How to Submit Your Story: Dos and Don’ts for Young Authors

At Junior Writers, we believe every young voice has the power to inspire, entertain, and make a difference. That’s why we created a platform where budding storytellers can showcase their talent through regular writing competitions and publications. Whether you’re writing your first short story or you’re already a passionate young author, we’re excited to read your work!

To help you make the most of your submission, here are some important Dos and Don’ts to follow:

The Dos

1. Do Follow the Theme (If Any)
Each competition might come with a theme, like friendship, fantasy worlds, or animal adventures. Make sure your story relates to the theme—it shows creativity and that you’ve read the guidelines.

2. Do Proofread Your Work
Before submitting, double-check your spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Clean writing helps your story shine. Ask a parent, teacher, or friend to read it over with you!

3. Do Be Original
We want to hear your voice and imagination. Avoid copying from books, movies, or the internet. Your unique perspective is what makes your story special.

4. Do Include a Title and Word Count
Make sure your story has a title and falls within the word limit mentioned in the submission guidelines.

5. Do Submit in the Right Format
Usually, we accept stories in .docx, .pdf, or pasted directly in the submission form. Make sure your file is easy to open and read.

6. Do Include Your Details
Don’t forget to share your name, age, grade/class, and school (if requested). We love celebrating our writers properly!

The Don’ts

1. Don’t Plagiarize
Plagiarism (copying someone else’s work) is a big no-no. It’s important to submit your own original ideas and writing.

2. Don’t Miss the Deadline
Always check the deadline for submissions. Late entries might not be accepted, even if the story is amazing.

3. Don’t Use Inappropriate Language or Content
Junior Writer is a space for creativity that’s respectful and fun. Avoid using any rude, violent, or age-inappropriate content.

4. Don’t Ignore Word Limits
If the limit is 500 words, don’t send 1,000! Judges may skip entries that don’t follow the basic rules.

5. Don’t Forget to Have Fun!
Writing is a journey, not just a contest. Enjoy the process of imagining, creating, and sharing your story with the world.
